The Glencairn Elementary fourth grade classes had just finished a lesson on states of matter. To provide some fun supplementary lessons, YCC brought hands-on demos about the states of matter. We talked about phase changes and froze rubber ducks with liquid nitrogen. The students were asked to explain the properties of goop (cornstarch and water) and slime (borax-glue mixture) and classify them as solids or liquids to practice being scientists.

The 9th annual Battle of the Chemistry Clubs was held at Michigan State University. We had a record number of thirteen undergraduate teams attending to compete in a variety of chemistry related activities, including periodic table trivia cornhole, glassware identification relays, titration races, a zombie apocalypse, and Jeopardy!
