The 30th annual Chemistry Day will be held on Saturday, October 22nd, 2016 from 10am to 3:30 pm. The theme this year will be: "Solving Mysteries through Chemistry"

On March 30th, The Lansing Charter Science Experience allowed kindergarten through eighth grades students and their parents to explore a variety of science, technology, and engineering based activities. YCC was asked to come and present on “Cryogenic Treats.” We made liquid nitrogen ice cream and talked about phase changes. The event was well attended, with approximately 250 people stopping by our table.

On March 24th, YCC attended Whitehills Elementary’s “March Science Madness” and talked about liquid nitrogen properties. To show how “cool” science can be, we used liquid nitrogen to make ice cream for about 200 students and their parents.

Beagle Elementary school holds a science night once a year and on March 18th the YCC participated by making liquid nitrogen ice cream for the kids along with coffee filter paper chromatography. We made four batches of ice cream over a two hour span and about 200 kids were there.

On Wednesday, March 9, 2016, a total of 47 students from 4 local high schools (East Lansing, Holt, Lansing Catholic and Okemos) participated in the MSU hosted Chemistry Olympiad. The day began with a two hour written exam followed by a Chemical Demonstration Show by Jim Geiger and an awards ceremony.
